Sixth graders’ evaluation strategies when reading Internet search results : an eye-tracking study

Eye-tracking technology was used to examine Internet search result evaluation strategies adopted by sixth-grade students (N = 36) during ten experimental information search tasks. The relevancy of the search result’s title, URL, and snippet components was manipulated and selection of search results as well as looking into probabilities on the search result components was analysed. The results revealed that during first-pass inspection, students read the search engine page by first looking at the title of a search result. Bakalaura darba ‘’ProQuest datubāzes lietojamības, derīguma un informācijas meklēšanas iespēju novērtējums’’ mērķis bija izpētīt šīs datubāzes lietojamību no studentu viedokļa. Pētījums tika balstīts uz pragmatisma teoriju un Mijiedarbības trīs komponentu modeli. Kā pētīšanas metodes tika izmantotas kontentanalīze un verbālais protokols. Pētījuma rezultāti apstiprināja hipotēzi, ka datubāze ir lietotājiem draudzīga ar plašām meklēšanas iespējām, kuru respondenti pēc uzdevumu veikšanas atzina par noderīgu.

[ES] Como sustitución de la clase magistral, en la sesión dedicada a tratar las características de “dietas occidentales de moda” de la asignatura optativa 34493-Alimentación y Dietética del Grado en Medicina de la Universitat de Valencia, se utilizaron infografías previamente diseñadas por los estudiantes. Con esta iniciativa se pretendía mejorar la participación del alumnado en la asignatura, además de profundizar en la materia, mejorar sus habilidades digitales y de búsqueda y síntesis de información. A Use Case of Data Integration in Food Production

International audience; This paper presents a use case about knowledge representation and integration of data from different domains in food science. An ontology named PO 2 DG, the Process and Observation Ontology for the production of Dairy Gels, has been designed in order to provide a shared vocabulary for domain experts. The available data have been semantically structured using PO 2 DG and are stored in an RDF repository named PO 2 DG dataset. This use case identifies some of the challenges when dealing with a multi domain representation problem, gives some hints about possible solutions and suggests some further work.
Browsing the information highway while driving: three in-vehicle touch screen scrolling methods and driver distraction

Distraction effects of three alternative touch screen scrolling methods for searching music tracks on a mobile device were studied in a driving simulation experiment with 24 participants. Page-bypage scrolling methods with Buttons or Swipe that better facilitate resumption of visual search following interruptions were expected to lead to more consistent in-vehicle glance durations and thus, on less severe distraction effects than Kinetic scrolling.
